“Match officials on the continental stage! Congratulations to Stephen Yiembe, Dickens Mimisa, and Samuel Mwangi on your appointment to officiate at the CHAN 2024 tournament,” The Football Kenya Federation FKF announced in a statement Thursday.

Mimisa will serve as a centre referee. Kenya’s 2024 Male Referee of the Year, he officiated at the recent AFCON under 20 championships and has been in charge of major fixtures including the recent Mashemeji Derby between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards in Homa Bay.

Yiembe will serve as VAR during the tournament. He was the second assistant referee in this year’s CAF Champions League Final between Pyramids FC and Mamelodi Sundowns. Yiembe was also selected for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and he officiated the group match between Real Madrid and Salzburg.

Mwangi is an assistant referee and will compliment the two officials who are serving in different capacities.

CHAN kicks off August 2 and will run until August 30, 2025.

Among the 29 main referees selected, three nations stand out with two representatives each: Algeria, Morocco, and Burkina Faso. This recognition highlights the quality of their refereeing schools.

CAF has ensured balanced representation, including a main referee from nations such as Cameroon, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Mali, Zimbabwe, and Madagascar.
