Confusion as Harambee Stars withdraw from CECAFA Four Nations Tournament

Stars will now return to Nairobi with only 13 days to their opening fixture of CHAN versus the DR Congo at Kasarani.
National team Harambee Stars has withdrawn from the Council of East and Central Africa (CECAFA) Four Nations Tournament that was to begin today, blaming poor conditions in Tanzania.
The Stars arrived in Arusha Saturday to prepare for the tournament that was penned in to help them prepare for the upcoming African Nations Championships CHAN that is being hosted in East Africa August 2, to 30.
Kenya were to open their campaign against regional rivals Uganda Cranes today at 3PM, before facing hosts Tanzania on Thursday, 24th July at 4PM.
The Stars would wrap up their group matches with a clash against Senegal on Sunday, 27th July at 1PM. All matches will be played at Karatu Stadium in Arusha.
That has all gone up in smoke.
"The football Kenya Federation wishes to inform the public that the Harambee Stars have withdrawn from the CECAFA Four Nations tournament in Tanzania," the Federation said in a statement Monday.
"The decision has been made following recommendations and advice from the team's technical bench led by head coach Benni McCarthy after a thorough assessment of the prevailing conditions which were deemed unsuitable for the team's participation and overall preparation."
The Stars will now return to Nairobi with only 13 days to their opening fixture of CHAN versus the DR Congo at Kasarani and the pressure will now be on as they await the opening fixture.
"The team will now return to Kenya to prepare for the upcoming African Nations Championships with full focus now shifting to ensuring optimal readiness for the assignment ahead, the statement read.
Kenya face a tough group A at CHAN. They take on defending champions Morocco, two time former winners the Congolese, Zambia and Angola as they seek to make a strong impression on their first attempt at CHAN.
