Reynold Cheruiyot came third in the 1500 metres final for men to complete a successful day for the Kenyan athletics team taking part in the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo Japan. His feat was important as it added a bronze medal to Kenya's so far impressive haul.

Portugal's Isaac Nader won gold with a time of 3:34.10  ahead of British pre race favourite Jake Wightman who managed silver with 3:34.12 .

Cheruiyot scored 3:34.25 for Bronze, ahead of Kenya's Timothy Cheruiyot with 3:34.50.

The bronze medal means that Kenya now has seven medals overall in Tokyo. Four are gold, one a silver and two Bronze medals have also been collected by Kenyan athletes in the championships. This puts the country second on the log.

The USA has 10 medals overall which leaves them in top spot on the medal standings. Seven are gold, one a silver and two bronze.

Nader, who had not been expected to make it to the top of the world, looked in disbelief following the race. He was impressive in his running and pushed to the end to deny Cheruiyot and Wightman who was eyeing his second consecutive world gold.
