The Carabao Cup delivered all round action on Tuesday night, with Premier League sides avoiding major upsets as Liverpool, Chelsea, Brighton, Fulham and Wolves all secured wins, while Cardiff City stunned Burnley in one of the standout results. Below, a quick round up of all Tuesday night action, with more fixtures to follow, Wednesday.

Liverpool 2-1 Southampton

Liverpool had to dig deep at Anfield after a resilient Southampton side made life difficult. Alexander Isak opened his Liverpool account with a close-range finish in the first half. Southampton hit back through Shea Charles, but substitute Hugo Ekitiké struck late to seal victory for the Reds before being sent off moments later for a second yellow during his celebration.

Lincoln City 1-2 Chelsea

Chelsea survived a scare at Sincil Bank after Lincoln took a shock first-half lead. The League One side side took  lead through Rob Street, but Chelsea rallied after the break. Tyrique George equalised with a well-placed strike, and Facundo Buonanotte grabbed the winner to spare the Blues from an upset.

Brighton 6-0 Barnsley

Brighton delivered the standout performance of the evening, hammering Barnsley 6-0. Paraguayan forward Diego Gómez delivered a masterclass, scoring four goals, including a stunning long-range volley to complete his first-half hat-trick. Harry Howell and Yasin Ayari added the other two to complete a dominant Seagulls win.

Burnley 2-1 Cardiff City

One of the night’s biggest surprises came in Turf Moor, where Championship side Cardiff knocked out Premier League outfit Burnley, with James Colwill and Callum Robinson finding the net to put them two up in the first half. Burnley’s Zian Flemming pulled one back late on, but Cardiff held firm.

Fulham 1-0 Cambridge United

Fulham dominated possession but struggled to break down Cambridge’s compact defence. A solitary first-half goal from Rodrigo Muniz was enough to separate the sides, sending the Premier League club through without too much fuss.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 Everton

Wolves impressed with a strong display at Molineux, with goals from Marshall Munetsi and Tolu Arokodare securing their place in the fourth round of the competition. Their pressing game forced errors from the Toffees, who once again struggled to create clear chances in attack.

Wrexham 2-0 Reading

Backed by a passionate home crowd, Wrexham earned a comfortable win over Reading. Two goals from Nathan Broadhead in the second half secured the result, continuing their strong form in cup competitions and underlining their growing reputation as giant-killers.

Wigan Athletic 0-2 Wycombe Wanderers

Wycombe booked their place in the next round with a professional performance, with  goals from Coalan Boyd-Munce and Donnel McNeilly to see off Wigan.

There will be four matches played Wednesday evening, with Manchester City travelling to Huddersfield, Newcastle United hosting Bradford City, Tottenham welcoming Doncaster with Arsenal travelling to Port Vale.
