Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup third-round fixtures lived up to their billing as Premier League giants Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Newcastle all secured convincing wins to book their spots in the fourth round.

The Carabao Cup is England's third tier competition, behind the Premier League and FA Cup. Newcastle United are the defending champions of the competition. Below is a round up of Wednesday night's action.

Port Vale 0-2 Arsenal

Arsenal fielded a strong side and got the job done professionally. New signing Eberechi Eze opened his account for the Gunners before Leandro Trossard wrapped up the win late on. The performance highlighted Arsenal’s depth and their ambition to make a serious push for silverware this season.

Huddersfield 0-2 Manchester City

Manchester City cruised into the next round with a composed victory away from home. Phil Foden and Savinho’s goals in each half of the game were enough to see City through. City’s control of possession kept Huddersfield at bay throughout, and Pep Guardiola’s men look intent on defending their domestic dominance.

Tottenham 3-0 Doncaster Rovers

Spurs made light work of Doncaster with an emphatic 3-0 win. João Palhinha opened the scoring with a spectacular overhead kick, before an own goal from Jay McGrath doubled their advantage. Brennan Johnson put the finishing touches on the victory with a composed strike late in the second half. Ange Postecoglou’s side looked sharp and clinical.

Bradford City 1-4 Newcastle United

Defending champions Newcastle United laid down a marker with a commanding 4-1 victory away to Bradford City. Joelinton and William Osula both grabbed braces, underlining the Magpies’ firepower and intent to retain the trophy. Eddie Howe’s men never looked troubled, dominating from start to finish.

With no major upsets of the Premier League sides on the night, the stage is set for mouthwatering fourth-round clashes.
