Millie Bright, the stalwart England and Chelsea Women defender, has officially retired from international football, ending a nine-year career that saw her earn 88 caps and play a pivotal role in England’s recent successes.

Bright revealed her decision on her podcast The Rest is Football: Daly Brightness, citing personal reflection, physical recovery, and a desire to prioritize club football and personal wellbeing.

“It’s a feeling, and I’m at peace with it,” she said, explaining that knee surgery and time away from the game helped clarify her priorities.

Career Highlights

Bright withdrew from England’s Euro 2025 squad and watched the Lionesses defend their title from home. She emphasized the importance of being “all in” for Chelsea and acknowledged the physical toll of balancing club and country.

Legacy and Farewell

Bright expressed pride in her England journey, saying she hopes to be remembered as “a true Lioness” and “a difference maker.” England manager Sarina Wiegman praised her leadership and impact, calling her “an England legend.”

 Reaction

Sky Sports’ Anton Toloui noted the retirement wasn’t unexpected given Bright’s absence from the Euros, but called it a significant loss. At 32, Bright’s decision reflects a shift toward longevity and focus on club performance.

Her departure marks the end of an era for England’s defense—but her influence on and off the pitch will resonate for years to come.
