McLaren's Oscar Piastri to start on pole for Bahrain GP

Max Verstappen will start down in seventh place, with Lewis Hamilton starting ninth.

Oscar Piastri continued McLaren's dominance from earlier practice rounds as he finished first in qualifying to take pole ahead of Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix.

George Russell will start on the front row with Oscar Piastri in position two, with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc and Kimi Antonelli sharing the second row in third and fourth respectively.

An excellent qualifying session sees Pierre Gasly line up in fifth spot, and championship leader Lando Norris will start in P6.

Norris, speaking to Sky Sports was not sure why his pace was slow but said he would check the underlying numbers to try improve his pace on race day.

"I'm just not quick enough," he spoke of his predicament.

Max Verstappen will start down in seventh place, with Lewis Hamilton starting ninth.

Yuki Tsunoda qualified tenth for Redbull.
