Rugby: Kabras and Oilers meet in 2025 Enterprise Cup final
In Summary

Kabras are chasing a fifth Enterprise Cup and fourth in a row.

Kabras Sugar and Menengai Oilers will battle in the 2025 Enterprise Cup Final on Saturday at the Nakuru Showground as they chase local rugby honours at the tail end of the 15-a-side season.

The two have established themselves as Kenya's top two sides in the local rugby scene this season and recently faced off in the League season finale in the Kenya Cup, Kabras coming out on top 27-26.

Last week, at the shorter-format Great Rift 10-a-side tournament, the Oilers beat their rivals 15-0 in the final to take some measure of revenge against the sugar men.

The Enterprise Cup, by virtue of status, is considered a more prestigious competition than the 10-a-side, and Oilers coach Gibson Weru understands the value of securing victory against Kabras, who have won it the last three times in a row.

"We have an opportunity to beat Kabras, who have been a great side in the last few years. We have played them a few times this season, and we believe we know where their weaknesses are. We are going to give it our best shot," he told Radio Generation Sport.

Kabras are chasing a fifth Enterprise Cup and fourth in a row, and coach Carlos Katywa said they must play to their strengths and be resolute in defence.

The South African tactician warned his players to expect a serious battle from the Oilers, who will be seeking revenge for the narrow loss in the Kenya Cup Final.

"They will be hurting after losing by a point in the Kenya Cup final, so we must be ready for a big physical battle. He emphasized that home ground advantage would not be of consequence. We will be in the enemy’s territory, and I am confident we can emerge victorious," Katywa told Radio Generation Sport.

Kick off will be at 3 pm Kenyan time.

The last time the Cup final was hosted in Nakuru was on 8 August 1964, but at the Nakuru Athletics Club.

Simon David ‘Lofty’ Reynolds’ NAC were defending champions & they took on Keith McGuiness’ Kenya Harlequins’.

If Menengai win, they will become only the 19th side to lift the holy grail of East African Rugby.
