Serial killer Wanjala awaits sentencing for deaths of five children
In Summary

During the hearings, Wanjala made an application to enter into a plea bargain with the victim’s family, which was firmly rejected.

Evans Juma Wanjala, a self-confessed serial killer behind the gruesome murders of five children in Moi’s Bridge, Uasin Gishu County, will be sentenced on Friday, July 4, at the Eldoret High Court.

This follows a ruling by Justice Reuben Nyakundi who found Wanjala guilty of the chilling crimes committed against minors aged between 10 and 15. The judge directed that he be returned to Eldoret GK Remand Prison as he awaits sentencing.

The court found that Wanjala defiled and strangled to death 10-year-old Stacy Nabiso six years ago, relying on a medical report and forensic evidence presented by key witnesses during the trial.

“The court finds that the accused defiled and strangled the minor to death,” ruled Justice Nyakundi.

DNA analysis linked the convict to the crime, with samples from the minor’s t-shirt and underwear matching those taken from Wanjala.

He had earlier confessed to detectives at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Nairobi, where he gave a step-by-step account of how he defiled and then killed one of the victims.

During the hearings, Wanjala made an application to enter into a plea bargain with the victim’s family, which was firmly rejected.

“That application was a mockery to my family. My only daughter went through pain and horror,” said Sharon Sakwa, the mother of the deceased.

The court was also informed that Wanjala has three more pending cases involving sexual offences in Makindu, where warrants of arrest had been issued.
