In Summary

Kihika's prolonged absence from the county over the past five months had sparked widespread concern.

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika made an emotional return to Kenya on Friday, arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after spending over five months in the United States. During her stay, she gave birth to twin boys.

Her return was marked by both a personal milestone and a significant political moment, with key political figures from across the country coming together to show their solidarity and support.

Kihika was greeted by her husband, businessman Sam Mburu, along with close friends, family, and political allies who had gathered to celebrate her homecoming.

Amidst an atmosphere of joy, cheers, and flashing cameras, the couple proudly introduced their newborn twins to the crowd.

In a heartfelt post on her social media, Kihika expressed her deep appreciation for those who supported her during what she referred to as a "season of double blessings."

"Truly blessed and overwhelmed with gratitude," she shared. "I was deeply humbled and honored by the warm visit from my dear friends who came to welcome me home and celebrate the arrival of my twin boys. Your love, prayers, and presence mean the world to me and my family."

The celebrations continued beyond the airport.

Later that evening, Kihika hosted a private gathering at her home, where close family and political allies joined her and her husband, Sam Mburu, for an intimate cake-cutting ceremony.

Photos from the event captured Kihika holding her twin boys, surrounded by guests and close allies.

Among the notable attendees were Molo MP Kuria Kimani and former Gatundu South MP turned Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, who mingled with guests and warmly posed with the newborns.

The presence of these figures, along with other prominent leaders, added a political dimension to what was initially a private family celebration.

Kihika's return attracted a strong presence of female leaders.

Among those who attended were Nyeri Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Nominated Senator Veronicah Maina, and Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi.

Earlier in April, after months of silence and speculation, Kihika and her husband, Sam Mburu, proudly shared a heartwarming photo of their twin boys.

The image quickly gained attention on social media, showing the couple beaming with joy as they posed with their newborns.

Kihika's prolonged absence from the county over the past five months had sparked widespread concern from residents.

Since November 2024, she has been overseeing county affairs remotely, frequently sharing updates on ongoing and completed projects via social media, a move that has angered residents.

On January 17, 2025, the governor addressed the matter, revealing that she was on an extended maternity leave.
