In Summary

Often referred to as the “Mark Zuckerberg of Russia,” the 39-year-old billionaire revealed that all of his children, both biological and those conceived through anonymous sperm donations in 12 countries, will inherit his wealth equally.

Pavel Durov, the enigmatic founder of Telegram and a staunch advocate for digital privacy, has made global headlines with the stunning announcement that he plans to bequeath his entire fortune, estimated at Sh2.199 trillion ($17 billion) to his 106 children.

Often referred to as the “Mark Zuckerberg of Russia,” the 39-year-old billionaire revealed that all of his children, both biological and those conceived through anonymous sperm donations in 12 countries, will inherit his wealth equally.

“I see no distinction between my children,” Durov told People. “Some were conceived naturally, others through donation but all are mine, and all will have the same rights.”

The inheritance will be secured in a trust fund and will remain inaccessible to the children until June 19, 2055, exactly 30 years from now.

Durov insisted that none of them will be allowed to touch the money before then, regardless of their background.

Explaining the rationale behind this bold decision, Durov said he wants his children to grow up grounded and self-reliant.

“I want them to live normal lives, to rely on themselves, to learn to create rather than depend on wealth,” he stated.

He also acknowledged the risks associated with running Telegram, a platform celebrated for its unfiltered approach to free speech and often under scrutiny by state authorities.

“Given the dangers tied to my work, I felt it necessary to arrange my estate now,” he added.

A known minimalist, Durov has renounced his Russian citizenship, avoids owning property, and maintains a low public profile despite his immense wealth.

Speaking to the BBC, Durov said this legacy is about more than just dividing assets it's about instilling principles and ensuring future peace.

“I don’t want them fighting each other after I’m gone,” he said.
