The DCI described Aroko as a person of interest in the ongoing murder investigation and warned that his compliance with the summons is not optional.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has ordered Philip Nahashon Aroko to surrender to the nearest police station for questioning over the killing of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the DCI described Aroko as a person of interest in the ongoing murder investigation and warned that his compliance with the summons is not optional.

"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations requests Philip Nahashon Aroko to surrender immediately to the nearest police station. He is a person of interest in the ongoing investigation into the brutal murder of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were. Compliance with this request is mandatory," DCI said.

The DCI also appealed to the public to provide any information that may help locate Aroko.

"We also appeal to anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or use our toll-free numbers: 999, 112, or #FichuaKwaDCI (0800 722 203). All information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality," the statement added.

So far, police have arrested nine suspects linked to the MP’s killing as the probe widens.

Among those already in custody are the MP’s bodyguard, Allan Omondi Ogolla, and his driver, Walter Owino.

The two are being held on suspicion of being part of a criminal gang that plotted and carried out the attack.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has also weighed in on the murder, saying some of the MP’s close allies had a hand in the plan to eliminate him.

"We have made very significant progress in arresting the perpetrators and their collaborators, and it will shock you to note that this was a heinous crime done in a cavalier manner, involving people who ordinarily should have taken good care of him in his interest," Murkomen said.

He promised swift justice, noting that all those involved will face the law without exception.

"The suspects will be brought to book and serve as an example. Their punishment will be an example to anyone who thinks they can run away from the law," he said.

Were was shot dead in Nairobi on the evening of April 30 by an armed attacker whose accomplice was on a motorbike.

The shooting happened during evening traffic, and investigators believe it was a planned attack.
