According to the MP, his convoy came under fire from armed men who, he claims, introduced themselves as officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya says he has been arrested following a dramatic ambush along the Isiolo-Nanyuki road shortly after addressing a rally in Isiolo on Friday.

According to the MP, his convoy came under fire from armed men who, he claims, introduced themselves as officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The attackers, he said, were masked and carried AK-47 rifles.

"I have just been attacked by unknown individuals claiming to be DCI officers. These people, heavily armed and moving with force, ambushed my convoy, disarmed my security team, confiscated their firearms, and pursued my vehicle. One of my security personnel managed to escape and helped me flee into a nearby bush for safety," he said.

Salasya claimed the attackers disarmed his bodyguards and took their weapons before chasing after him. He managed to escape with the help of one of his security officers.

He also claimed the gunmen aimed directly at him as they fired at his vehicle.

"They shot at my vehicle, aiming directly at me. Shortly after, they emerged with at least 15 AK47 rifles and confronted me with a chilling message, one I cannot disclose at this time for security reasons," Salasya stated.

The MP did not give clear details on why he was allegedly arrested but hinted that the attackers issued threats during the incident.

Salasya has been on a countrywide tour and recently declared his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

He questioned the motive behind the attack, saying he has not been speaking against the government in his rallies.

"What I will say is this: I have not been mentioning the government in my rallies, and I have stayed true to my call for peace and progress," he expressed.

Salasya announced his 2027 presidential bid following what he termed wide consultations with the public.

"Fellow Kenyans, after deep reflection, wide consultations, and careful consideration of the state of our nation, I, Peter Kalerwa Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East Constituency, hereby declare my intention to vie for the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the 2027 General Election," he said.

He said his decision is driven by a strong desire to bring change to the country.

According to him, his goal is to offer bold leadership that will focus on industrial growth, economic empowerment, and social justice.
