KMPDC orders Scion Hospital maternity services shutdown after complaint

The decision to close the maternity unit was made as investigations begin.
Scion Hospital has been directed to halt operations at its maternity wing following a complaint of alleged medical negligence that led to the stillbirth of a baby.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council says it has started a formal probe into the incident and has moved swiftly to stop maternity services at the facility to protect patients.
"The Council has taken note of the matter and initiated a formal inquiry in line with its regulatory mandate," the regulator said in a statement issued on Saturday.
The decision to close the maternity unit was made as investigations begin.
"The maternity ward at Scion Hospital has been ordered closed with immediate effect to ensure patient safety and preserve the integrity of the ongoing review," the Council said.
The Council has assured the public that it is committed to ensuring quality care and will act based on the findings.
"The Council remains committed to upholding the highest standards of medical care and will take all necessary actions based on the outcomes of the investigation."
