Former CJ Maraga demands action over Boniface Mwangi's detention in Tanzania

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has raised alarm over the continued detention of Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi by Tanzanian authorities, calling it a clear violation of international human rights law.
In a strongly worded statement, Maraga criticized the Kenyan government’s silence and inaction, demanding urgent intervention to secure Mwangi’s release.
"I am deeply concerned by the continued detention of Boniface Mwangi without access to legal representation, the courts, or consular support," Maraga stated.
"This is a blatant breach of international human rights standards."
The activist is reportedly being held without formal charges or communication with legal counsel, raising fears over his safety and well-being.
Maraga urged the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs to come clean about Mwangi’s circumstances, including the reasons behind his detention and the steps being taken to ensure his release.
"I condemn the government’s failure to act with urgency. Boniface Mwangi must be freed immediately and unconditionally," he said.
The former CJ also expressed solidarity with Mwangi’s family, praying for his swift and safe return to his wife and children.
