NCBA appoints James Gossip as new Managing Director

The bank said James’ appointment marks a key step in advancing its long-term growth goals and reflects its commitment to independent leadership and strong governance.
NCBA has appointed James M. Gossip as its new Managing Director, following regulatory approvals and in line with a board restructuring strategy announced last year.
The bank said James’ appointment marks a key step in advancing its long-term growth goals and reflects its commitment to independent leadership and strong governance.
"James is a seasoned international banking executive with over 30 years of experience in senior leadership roles across Europe, Asia and North America," said NCBA.
"He has served in C-suite, Executive Committee, and Board positions within major financial institutions."
The bank said James brings a strong record in leading organisational transformation, managing operations, and setting up new market operations and controls.
Before joining NCBA, he held various senior positions at HSBC, with his most recent role being Managing Director, Belt & Road Initiative and Business Corridors, Asia Pacific, at HSBC Global Services Limited in Hong Kong.
In that role, he led strategies to grow cross-border trade and investment flows within Asia and connect them to global markets.
While James takes over the Managing Director role, John Gachora will remain the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
He will continue to focus on strengthening NCBA’s stakeholder relationships, driving group-wide strategic alignment, business growth, and delivering on the bank’s purpose of Inspiring Greatness across Africa.
