The intensifying attacks, now in the fourth year of Russia’s full-scale invasion, come even as both sides engage in talks seeking a possible ceasefire.

Russian attacks have killed at least five civilians, including three members of the same family, in a fresh wave of strikes targeting several regions in war-torn eastern Ukraine, authorities said on Thursday.

In the eastern Kharkiv region, a couple and their 36-year-old son were killed late Wednesday in a village hit by a Russian strike, local officials reported.

Separately, two women died on Thursday in the Donetsk region, where Russian forces have continued to press forward on the ground.

The intensifying attacks, now in the fourth year of Russia’s full-scale invasion, come even as both sides engage in talks seeking a possible ceasefire.

Authorities in Donetsk have ordered families with children to leave 10 settlements due to growing insecurity, including Dobropillia, a town that had 28,000 residents before the war.

“I emphasise once again: staying in the Donetsk region is extremely dangerous,” warned regional governor Vadim Filashkin.

Officials in Donetsk also released blurred photos showing one of the women killed in Kostyantynivka, where a dozen other people were injured. Russian troops are gradually closing in on the industrial city.

In Kharkiv city, a separate missile strike later left 37 people wounded, including a 10-year-old girl and two teenagers aged 17, according to the regional governor.

In central Ukraine, overnight drone and missile strikes on Cherkasy injured seven people, including a child, emergency services confirmed.

In the south, a drone assault on the port city of Odesa wounded four people and severely damaged a well-known market. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said some of the structures hit were listed under UNESCO protection.

“Russia continues its terror and obstructs diplomacy, which is why it deserves full-scale sanctions responses, as well as our strikes on their logistics, their military bases, and their military production facilities,” President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media.

Zelensky said Russia had launched 103 drones — mostly Iranian-made Shahed models — along with four missiles in the overnight attacks.

Meanwhile, in Russia, two women were killed and several others injured in a Ukrainian drone strike on the southern city of Sochi, regional officials reported.

The Russian defence ministry said its air-defence systems had shot down 39 Ukrainian drones, mainly over the country’s southern territories.
