President William Ruto on Monday, August 11, 2025, bid farewell to British High Commissioner Neil Wigan, who is leaving Kenya to take up a new role at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

Speaking at State House, Nairobi, Ruto praised the warm and strong ties between Kenya and the United Kingdom, saying the relationship covers key areas such as security, trade, infrastructure, and climate action.

“Kenya and the UK have a long history of close cooperation. Our renewed Strategic Partnership focuses on shared prosperity, stability, and protecting our environment,” Ruto said.

He noted that the UK is one of Kenya’s largest export markets and a major source of investment in sectors such as financial services, manufacturing, and telecommunications.

“Our collaboration is also seen in projects like the Nairobi Railway City, aimed at improving transport in the Nairobi Metropolitan area, and the African Green Industrialization Initiative, which supports climate-friendly development,” he added.

Wigan, who has served in Kenya for two years, expressed sadness at leaving but pride in the progress made.

“I am truly sad to be leaving Kenya after an exciting two years,” he said. “The Kenya-UK partnership has grown in trade, investment, technology, innovation, and cultural exchange, benefiting people in both countries.”

In his new role as Director General Strategy and Delivery at the FCDO, Wigan will help shape the UK’s foreign policy and continue working on international development and partnerships.
