The Interior boss assured that once acquired, the vehicles would be deployed immediately to areas with the greatest need, ensuring quicker response times and better support for officers on the ground.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced that new vehicles will be delivered to police across the country by November, a move aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening grassroots security.

The announcement was made during the launch of a local security engagement initiative at the Nyandarua County Commissioner’s office, where Murkomen outlined the government’s plans to boost mobility for law enforcement officers and national administrators.

Speaking to journalists, Murkomen said the procurement process for the vehicles is in its final stages. “We hope it can be closed in a month or two, by October, latest, November,” he stated.

He assured that once acquired, the vehicles would be deployed immediately to areas with the greatest need, ensuring quicker response times and better support for officers on the ground.

The CS highlighted the critical role of police vehicles, which extend beyond regular security duties.

“Police vehicles sometimes become the cars that carry injured people to the hospital and even suspects to court. They do a lot of things,” he said, noting that in many communities, police cars also function as ambulances and emergency transport.

Murkomen called for increased collaboration between national and county governments to strengthen emergency response systems, particularly in healthcare.

“We must have a conversation with county governments to invest more in ambulances. It is important to station ambulances along highways because failure to do so means police officers handle accidents without the proper capacity,” he noted.

He also announced that chiefs across the country will receive motorcycles to improve service delivery at the community level.

The grassroots engagement forum is part of the Interior Ministry’s broader plan to strengthen local security networks, improve accessibility of services, and foster closer cooperation between citizens and security agencies.

During the meeting, Murkomen cautioned politicians against inciting violence, warning that those who do so will face the full force of the law. He praised citizens for acknowledging the multiple roles played by police vehicles in their communities and reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing public safety through strategic allocation of resources.
