The Public Service Commission (PSC) has officially opened the recruitment process for the positions of chairperson and eight members of the National Land Commission (NLC).

In a statement shared on its X page on Friday, August 29, 2025, the commission said applications will be accepted until Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

“Now therefore, and pursuant to the provisions of Sections 7 and 8 of the Act, and the First Schedule thereto, the Selection Panel invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the positions of Chairperson and Eight (8) Members of the National Land Commission,” the PSC statement read.

Requirements for Chairperson

Candidates seeking the chairperson role must hold a degree from a university recognized in Kenya and possess at least fifteen years of experience in any of the following areas: public administration, land management and administration, management of natural resources, land adjudication and settlement, land law, land survey, spatial planning or land economics, and social sciences.

They must also meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution and have had a distinguished career in their field.

Requirements for Commissioners

Applicants for the eight commissioner positions must also hold a degree from a Kenyan-recognized university and have at least ten years of experience in the same fields.

They too must comply with Chapter Six of the Constitution and have demonstrated excellence in their professional careers.

Disqualifications

PSC outlined clear grounds for disqualification under Section 8(3) of the National Land Commission Act, Cap 281.

Individuals are barred from nomination if they are members of Parliament or county assemblies, hold political party positions, or have contested elections for these positions or as governors in the last five years.

Other disqualifications include being an undischarged bankrupt, convicted of a felony, or having facilitated or benefited from unlawful or irregular allocation, acquisition, or use of land or other public property.

Application process

Applications can be submitted online or delivered in hard copy to the PSC Secretariat’s Office.

Candidates must include a detailed CV, a copy of their national ID or passport, academic and professional certificates, testimonials, and any other supporting documents.
