The National Police Service (NPS) announced the recovery of another illegal firearm in Kerio Valley, marking continued progress in the ongoing Operation Rudisha Bunduki, which has so far yielded 286 firearms and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition in the fight to restore peace in the region.

According to a statement released by the National Police Service (NPS), the firearm was handed over on October 8, 2025, in Kiptumbur Location as part of the continuing ‘Operation Rudisha Bunduki’, a government-led initiative to rid the region of illegal weapons and curb banditry.

“On 8th October 2025, a member of the public in Kiptumbur Location voluntarily surrendered an AK-47 rifle with twenty-two rounds of ammunition to the security agencies conducting ‘Operation Rudisha Bunduki’ in the Kerio Valley,” the NPS said.

The NPS confirmed that the latest recovery brings the total number of illegal firearms surrendered or confiscated to 286, alongside 2,093 rounds of ammunition and one rifle grenade since the operation began.

The figures underscore the growing success of Operation Rudisha Bunduki , a coordinated peace and security intervention that combines disarmament, dialogue, and community cooperation to reduce armed conflict in Kerio Valley and surrounding areas.

“To date, the ongoing disarmament exercise has successfully recovered a total of two hundred and eighty-six illegal firearms, two thousand and ninety-three rounds of ammunition, and one rifle grenade,” the statement read.
