Truecaller has surged past 100 million monthly active users across the Middle East and Africa (MEA), marking a 19% year-on-year jump for the caller-identification platform.

The milestone, reached in August, reflects accelerating smartphone adoption in mobile-first economies where phone numbers serve as primary digital identities.

CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala credits organic growth in key markets like Kenya, Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa where Truecaller now operates on 20-45% of connected devices.

“MEA’s mobile data boom lets us solve real communication pain points,” he told investors.

“We’re deepening regional partnerships because this growth trajectory is sustainable.”

The app’s expansion mirrors digital shifts across emerging economies.

Unlike regions dominated by social media logins, MEA users rely on phone numbers for everything from banking to marketplace deals, making Truecaller’s spam-blocking and verification tools essential infrastructure.

With offices now expanding in Nairobi and Dubai, the firm aims to deepen its integration into the region’s tech ecosystem.

Some of the largest markets in MEA for Truecaller are Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Algeria, Ghana, and Jordan.

In 2018,  Truecaller opened its regional headquarters in Nairobi, boosting Kenya’s profile as the preferred base for global technology giants in Africa.

The Swedish-headquartered firm, which boasts more than 450 million users globally, said that the decision to set up its African base in Kenya was informed by the large number of users of the app in the country.
