Two arrested in Turkana over possession of AK-47 rifle

The arrest followed response by Lokichogio police officers to a tip-off from members of the public.
Police in Lokichogio, Turkana County, have arrested two suspects found in possession of an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine.
According to a report, the move followed swift response by Lokichogio police officers to a tip-off from members of the public, leading to the arrest of Lopua Ekuyen, 18, and Lokal Chara, 19, who were found in possession of the weapon.
"The two are in custody, undergoing processing ahead of their court appearance. Meanwhile, the recovered firearm and magazine are being held as exhibits," said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
This comes barely a day after a joint operation led by the DCI Crime Scene Investigations(CSI) team, supported by GSU in Kipsing, successfully recovered two AK-47 rifles with empty magazines at Lemorijo village, Lengurma Location, Isiolo North Sub-County.
The operation was in response to an incident that occurred on 7th April 2025, where three National Police Reservists (NPR) from Igembe North, Meru County, were fatally shot by armed raiders.
The recovered rifles are believed to have been used during the attack.
"This breakthrough was made possible through collaboration between our elite teams, members of the public, the local administration, and DCI Igembe North, who has taken over investigations as the case remains under probe," said the DCI.
"We commend all officers involved for their dedication and continued efforts to uphold law and order. Further updates will follow as investigations are still on course."
