In Summary

As if the stage wasn't already set for a showdown of epic proportions with a first leg that somehow lacked more goals, Anfield was last night treated to a modern-day slugfest as PSG beat Liverpool 1-0 and 4-1 on penalties to proceed to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

Ousmane Dembele gave PSG an early lead after capitalizing on an error by Ibrahima Konate to make it 1-1 on aggregate.

From then on, it was a battle of the goalkeepers as PSG Gianluca Donnarumma and Liverpool's Alisson gave the world a goalkeeping clinic with several sub-human saves to keep the score 1-0 on the night.

PSG had previously lost their only appearance in a penalty shootout in Europe but they then held their nerve to convert all their penalties. With Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missing their kicks infront of a stunned Anfield.

Over the two legs, few can argue that PSG deserve their place in the quarter-finals.

" My players were brave today. I'm Proud of them, PSG coach Luis Enrique stated after the clash.

In other matches, Bayern Munich won 2-0 at rivals Leverkusen thanks to second-half goals from Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies to make it yet another quarter-final for the Bavarians.

A 5-0 aggregate demolition job seeing them through.

"We deserve it. We look forward to the next round, an elated Bayern coach Vincent Kompany told the media afterward.

Barcelona beat Benfica 3-1 at the Camp Nou to qualify for the last 8 with Raphinha the star of the show with two well taken goals. They ended up winning 4-1 on aggregate and the Brazilian believes that they can win it all.

"We can win all the trophies we are facing. La Liga and the Champions League. It's possible. We will go for it, a bullish Raphinha stated to Barcelona TV.

In Milan, Inter booked their quarter-final slot with a comfortable 4-2 aggregate success over Robin Van Persie's Feyenoord at the San Siro.

A 2-1 win on the night came courtesy of goals by Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu. Jakub Moder scored the consolation for the Dutch visitors.

Wednesday night will see four more round-of-16 matches.
