Pope Francis is steadily recovering, with signs of improvement in his health, according to the latest update from the Vatican’s Holy See press office.

In a statement released on Friday, the Vatican reported that the Pope’s condition has continued to improve as he recuperates at his residence in the Casa Santa Marta in Vatican City.

This follows his hospitalization weeks ago after developing a polymicrobial infection that led to bilateral pneumonia.

The Vatican noted that Pope Francis’ breathing, mobility, and speech have shown further recovery.

“Pope Francis’ condition has shown further slight respiratory, mobility, and voice-related improvements. Recent blood tests also indicate a slight improvement in his pulmonary infection,” the statement read.

The Pope has continued his medical, mobility, and respiratory therapies, and he now requires less supplemental oxygen.

Despite his health challenges, he remains in good spirits and has continued carrying out his duties.

After being discharged from Rome's Gemelli Hospital under “protected discharge” on Sunday, March 23, Pope Francis has resumed some of his activities.

On Wednesday, he followed the Mass in St. Peter's Basilica, which was led by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the death of Saint John Paul II.

Additionally, on Friday morning, he participated remotely in the Lenten meditation held in the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall.

The session was led by Father Roberto Pasolini, OFM Cap, the Preacher of the Papal Household.

The Vatican press office clarified that there have been no notable visits to the Pope and that it is still too early to determine his participation in the upcoming Holy Week liturgies.

Last month, the 88-year-old pontiff experienced two episodes of "acute respiratory failure."

Doctors had to intervene to clear mucus from his lungs, but he remained alert throughout the process.

Despite facing multiple health complications, Pope Francis has shown encouraging signs of recovery.

The Vatican has scheduled the next update on his health for Tuesday, April 8.
