The French leader added that Trump would be advocating for a trilateral meeting involving Putin, Zelensky, and himself in the future.

French President Emmanuel Macron has stressed that only Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has the authority to negotiate any territorial agreement with Russia aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday after a call with US President Donald Trump, Macron made it clear that Ukraine’s sovereignty over land decisions is non-negotiable.

“Territorial questions concerning Ukraine can be, and will be, negotiated only by the Ukrainian president,” Macron said.

Macron also discussed the upcoming meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, scheduled for Friday.

He described the search for a ceasefire in Ukraine as "very important" and confirmed that it has "our support."

The French leader added that Trump would be advocating for a trilateral meeting involving Putin, Zelensky, and himself in the future.

Macron suggested that such a discussion could take place in Europe, in "a neutral country that is acceptable to all parties."

On the issue of potential territorial swaps, Macron said there are currently "no serious land swap proposals" under consideration. His remarks underline the delicate diplomatic balance and reaffirm Ukraine’s central role in any negotiations regarding its territory.
