Scattered rains, chilly mornings and strong winds to hit parts of Kenya

In contrast, daytime heat will continue to dominate North-eastern and North-western Kenya, where temperatures are expected to rise above 30 degrees Celsius.
Kenyans are set to experience a week of contrasting weather patterns, with the Kenya Meteorological Department warning of cold, cloudy mornings in some areas and intense daytime heat in others.
According to the latest weekly forecast for August 5 to August 11, 2025, temperatures are expected to swing widely across different regions, accompanied by scattered rainfall and strong winds.
The department said residents of the Central Highlands, South-eastern Lowlands, parts of the Rift Valley and Western Kenya should prepare for chilly conditions, especially during the early morning and night hours. “Mornings and nights may feel especially chilly,” Met said in its advisory.
In contrast, daytime heat will continue to dominate North-eastern and North-western Kenya, where temperatures are expected to rise above 30 degrees Celsius.
This sharp contrast has prompted the weatherman to urge the public to stay prepared and alert, particularly vulnerable populations like children, the elderly and those with respiratory illnesses.
The department also forecast a slight increase in rainfall in several parts of the country, particularly in the Central Highlands, Coast, North-western and Western Kenya. Although the rains will remain scattered, they are expected to bring short-term relief in regions that have been experiencing prolonged dryness.
“The showers will remain scattered but may provide temporary relief for farmers and rangelands,” the forecast states.
Cold nights are likely in parts of the Central Highlands, South-eastern Lowlands and Rift Valley, with temperatures expected to fall below 10°C. The Meteorological Department advised residents in these regions to wear warm clothing to guard against the low temperatures.
Meanwhile, strong winds are set to sweep through several regions including the Coast, Kenya’s territorial waters, SE Lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya. Wind speeds are expected to exceed 25 knots (12.86 metres per second).
According to the forecast, “Strong southerly to south-easterly winds greater than 25 knots (12.86 metres per second) are expected across the Coast, Kenya’s territorial waters, SE Lowlands, NE, and NW.”
The weatherman said it will continue monitoring the changing weather conditions and share regular updates. It encouraged residents to remain informed and adjust their routines based on the expected fluctuations.
