The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Turkey has facilitated the safe evacuation of a Somali national, Dr. Mustafa Ali Macalin, from Iran to Turkey, after he sustained minor injuries in a recent Israeli airstrike targeting Tehran.

Dr. Mustafa, a Somali medical student who has been studying in Iran, is among dozens of young Somalis currently pursuing higher education in the country.

He was reportedly caught in the aftermath of the strike and suffered a light injury.

Following the incident, the Somali embassy said it coordinated efforts to bring him safely across the Iranian border into Turkey.

In a statement, the Somali Embassy in Ankara confirmed it had been working closely with Turkish authorities to ensure Dr. Mustafa’s safe passage.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the Government of Turkey for their vital support and cooperation in facilitating Dr. Mustafa’s arrival into Turkish territory,” the statement read.

The embassy also noted that it is actively monitoring the security situation in Iran and remains committed to the safety of Somali citizens residing there.

It added that contingency plans are in place to assist and repatriate Somali nationals from Iran if they feel unsafe due to the escalating tensions in the region.
