Armed attackers opened fire on a wedding celebration in southeastern France early Sunday morning, leaving two people dead including the bride and injuring three others, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

The violent incident unfolded at approximately 4:30 am (0230 GMT) in the village of Goult.

Preliminary reports suggest the bride and groom were departing the venue when they were ambushed by masked gunmen.

The bride was fatally shot, while one of the attackers was killed struck by the couple's vehicle as they attempted to flee the scene.

Authorities have launched a major manhunt, deploying nearly 100 officers to track down the remaining suspects.

Investigators are exploring several leads, including the possibility of a revenge or gang-related motive.
