Two Palestinians killed by Israeli fire in West Bank, including teen boy

In a statement, the ministry said 15-year-old Amjad Nassar Abu Awad was killed at dawn by Israeli gunfire in Ramallah.
Two Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli forces in separate incidents across the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
In a statement, the ministry said 15-year-old Amjad Nassar Abu Awad was killed at dawn by Israeli gunfire in Ramallah.
The Israeli military confirmed it had conducted an overnight operation in the area, claiming "several terrorists hurled rocks" at soldiers, prompting warning shots. The military added that the incident is under review.
Mourners, most of them teenage boys, gathered at a hospital morgue in Ramallah, where an AFP correspondent reported emotional scenes as friends wept and touched Abu Awad’s face in farewell.
In a separate incident near the southern West Bank town of Dhahiriya, 24-year-old Samer Bassam Zagharneh was also killed by Israeli fire.
The military said soldiers had spotted a man attempting to cross the border near al-Ramadin and opened fire “according to standard operating procedures,” identifying a hit.
The deaths come days after two other Palestinian teenagers aged 13 and 15 were fatally shot in separate incidents in the towns of Al-Yamoun and Kafr Malik.
The West Bank, which has been under Israeli occupation since 1967, has seen a sharp escalation in violence since the October 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, which sparked the ongoing war in Gaza.
According to the Palestinian health ministry, at least 947 Palestinians including both militants and civilians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the West Bank since then. Israeli authorities report that at least 35 Israelis have been killed in attacks or military operations during the same period.
Meanwhile, Palestinian officials said a 22-year-old detainee, Loay Nasrallah, died in Israeli custody. Though the cause of death was not disclosed, his family said he suffered from pre-existing medical conditions before being jailed in March last year.
Nasrallah’s death brings the total number of Palestinians who have died in Israeli custody since the Gaza war began to 73, according to the Palestinian authorities. The Israel Prison Service has not commented on the report.
