The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a safety alert on July 10, warning that the 64-ounce Ozark Trail bottles may pose serious risks to users.

Walmart is under scrutiny after recalling approximately 850,000 water bottles over a potentially dangerous defect that has reportedly left two people with permanent vision loss.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a safety alert on July 10, warning that the 64-ounce Ozark Trail bottles may pose serious risks to users.

According to the CPSC, the problem arises when the bottles are used to store certain liquids like milk, juice, food, or carbonated drinks for extended periods.

Pressure can build inside, causing the lid to forcefully detach. At least three incidents have been reported so far, including two cases in which individuals were struck in the face and allegedly lost vision.

The commission is now urging customers to stop using the product immediately, citing the risk of facial injuries and lacerations. The bottles were sold both in-store and online, meaning many households across the country may unknowingly be at risk.

In response, Walmart has moved swiftly to recall the bottles and reassure customers. In a statement, company spokesperson Molly Blakeman said Walmart is prioritizing consumer safety and has worked closely with both the CPSC and the bottle’s manufacturer to withdraw the product from circulation.

“Walmart has fully cooperated with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the manufacturer of the impacted product to remove it from our stores and notify consumers of the recall,” Blakeman noted.

Customers are being advised to return the bottles to any Walmart location for a full refund no receipt or questions required.

This latest recall follows another health-related issue involving the retail giant. Just weeks ago, Walmart and Kroger pulled pre-packaged Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo meals from shelves due to potential listeria contamination.

Fresh Realm, the supplier behind the meals, initiated the voluntary recall in cooperation with the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The recall affects all Chicken Alfredo products manufactured before June 17 and was issued “out of an abundance of caution,” according to FSIS.

Listeria is a serious foodborne pathogen that can lead to severe illness, especially in vulnerable populations such as the elderly, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems.

Consumers in possession of the affected products are urged to discard them or return them to the point of purchase.
