Terminally ill Israeli woman charged in plot to kill Netanyahu with rocket launcher

Court documents reveal that the unnamed woman, described as a Tel Aviv-based anti-government activist, allegedly planned the attack as her final act.
Israeli prosecutors have formally charged a 73-year-old terminally ill woman with plotting to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu using a rocket-propelled grenade.
Court documents reveal that the unnamed woman, described as a Tel Aviv-based anti-government activist, allegedly planned the attack as her final act, believing it would be a patriotic sacrifice to “save” Israel from what she viewed as destructive leadership.
The indictment details how, after receiving a terminal medical diagnosis, the woman confided in a fellow activist, expressing her desire to obtain a rocket launcher and assassinate Netanyahu. She reportedly asked him to gather details on the Prime Minister’s movements and security protocols to facilitate her plan.
Despite her insistence, the activist refused to participate and tried to dissuade her. When she persisted, he alerted the authorities, leading to her arrest.
Prosecutors argue that her clear intent and readiness to die as a “martyr” still present a credible threat. They have requested that she be placed under house arrest pending trial.
This is not the first time Netanyahu has faced threats.
In 2023, a man was arrested for allegedly posting death threats against the Prime Minister online.
Israel has a fraught history with political violence. The 1995 assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin by a far-right extremist remains one of the most significant political tragedies in the country’s history.
