Spain’s capital Madrid witnessed a horrific scene on Saturday as an explosion took place in a bar, leaving 25 people injured.

Firefighters continue to clear debris from the establishment.

Madrid emergency services shared images on X showing the bar’s partially collapsed ceiling and bricks scattered across the floor.

The blast tore the doors from their hinges and sent glass fragments flying into the street.

According to reports, the explosion’s force caused extensive damage to the building’s structure.

Emergency medical teams treated 21 people at the scene, while three victims remain in “serious” condition. Other two victims also face “potentially serious” injuries, according to emergency services.

Madrid’s council wrote in a post on X that the police “have attended to 21 injured people, 3 of them serious and 2 potentially serious.”

Rescue teams deployed sniffer dogs and drones to assist with the response operation, and authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion.

“The Aerial Support Section of Madrid Police is working with drones,” it added.

The incident occurred in Vallecas, a working-class district in southeastern Madrid.

Authorities have not yet released information about what triggered the blast or whether anyone remains trapped in the building.
