The film revisits the infamous 1973 kidnapping of John Paul Getty III — heir to the Getty oil fortune.

Renowned Italian producer Andrea Iervolino has joined the upcoming crime thriller Captivated, which is set to star Academy Award-winner Al Pacino and actress Katie Holmes.

The film revisits the infamous 1973 kidnapping of John Paul Getty III — heir to the Getty oil fortune — through a fresh lens, weaving historical events with a new dramatic narrative.

Captivated has been in the works for several years, with previous attempts at bringing the story to screen most notably seen in Ridley Scott’s 2017 film All the Money in the World.

However, this new project aims to offer a more personal, character-driven portrayal of the psychological toll and criminal complexity behind the real-life events.

Production is slated to begin in Rome later this month, with the Eternal City providing an authentic backdrop for a story deeply rooted in Italian organized crime.

The film will delve into the emotional and moral dilemmas faced by those involved, from the teenage Getty and his captors to the fractured family forced to navigate the crisis under intense public scrutiny.

Iervolino, co-founder of Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment (ILBE), is known for his work on a range of international productions and collaborations with Hollywood stars. His involvement adds significant momentum and financing muscle to the project.

“This is a story that resonates across generations — about power, money, and what it truly means to be free,” Iervolino said in a statement. “With talent like Pacino and Holmes, we’re aiming to create a film that’s both thrilling and profoundly human.”

Al Pacino is expected to portray a character inspired by a key figure in the criminal negotiations or Getty family, while Katie Holmes is set to play a pivotal role whose details remain under wraps.

Both actors bring star power and dramatic weight, crucial for a story that balances suspense with emotional depth.

Captivated joins a growing list of films exploring the darker chapters of recent history, reflecting renewed audience interest in true crime narratives with cinematic flair.

With a powerhouse team now locked in, the project appears well-positioned to make a strong impact on the international film circuit.
