KeNHA announces temporary closure of Nyaru-Tenges Road

The closure comes after heavy rains in the area triggered severe landslides.
KeNHA Director General Kungu Ndingu issued a statement on Monday announcing the temporary closure of the Nyaru-Tenges Road.
The closure comes after heavy rains in the area triggered severe landslides.
"These landslides have caused large amounts of soil and debris to obstruct a major portion of the road," Ndungu explained.
Ndungu also highlighted that large cracks have appeared on the road, posing a serious risk to motorists’ safety.
Drivers are advised by the authority to seek alternative routes while repair work is underway.
KeNHA, established under the Kenya Roads Act of 2007 and officially launched in September 2008, is the government agency tasked with the development, rehabilitation, management, and maintenance of all National Trunk Roads, which include Class S, A, and B roads.
Class S roads are highways connecting two or more cities, designed to carry a high volume of traffic safely at the highest speeds.
Class A roads serve as strategic routes and corridors linking international borders at key immigration points and major international terminals such as airports and seaports, covering a total of 6,830 kilometers.
Class B roads are highways that serve as vital national routes, connecting key trading and economic centers, County Headquarters, and other important national hubs to one another, as well as linking them to the National Capital or to Class A roads.
