Eid ul-Fitr: President Ruto sends goodwill message to Muslims

As Muslims in Kenya and around the world mark Eid ul-Fitr, President William Ruto has shared a heartfelt message recognizing the importance of the celebration.
He highlighted the values of peace, unity, and compassion that the holiday represents and encouraged the Muslim community to draw inspiration from the teachings of the Quran.
“We welcome Idd-ul-Fitr, a time of gratitude and renewal. Idd is a time to give thanks and share blessings. Today, we celebrate love, unity, and happiness. May kindness and joy fill your home," Ruto said in a video message posted on social media on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
"May the holy Quran guide us with wisdom and peace. Happy Idd-ul-Fitr.”
His statement comes as millions of Muslims worldwide are celebrating the end of Ramadan through prayers, festive meals, and charitable giving.
Eid al-Fitr, known as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," signifies the conclusion of Ramadan, a holy month during which devoted Muslims observe daily fasting from sunrise to sunset.
The occasion is marked by prayer, reflection, and communal gatherings, symbolizing spiritual renewal and gratitude.
To ensure nationwide observance, the government designated Monday, March 31, 2025, as a public holiday, since the first day of Eid falls on a Sunday.
In a gazette notice issued on Friday, March 28, 2025, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed the holiday, stating:
“It is hereby notified for public information that, under the powers granted by Section 2(1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares Monday, 31st March 2025, a public holiday in observance of Idd-ul-Fitr.”
As Muslims in Kenya and around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr, President Ruto’s message highlights the significance of unity, gratitude, and faith during this sacred time.
