In Summary

CHAN kicks off Saturday 2 August in Tanzania, with Kenya taking to the pitch Sunday 3 August 2025 versus DR Congo at Kasarani. Kenya is in a tough group A that features the Congolese, Morocco, Zambia and Angola, which many consider to be the group of death

President William Ruto has inspected the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Wednesday, where the African Nations Championships (CHAN) final match will be hosted. He also visited the national team Harambee Stars, who are preparing for the tournament.

Together with Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, the President took a walk through the Kasarani complex and the recently developed stadium facilities that have been upgraded to CAF standards ahead of the August 2 kick-off date.

The Stadium has been revamped with the help of the Kenya Defence Forces who have managed the project.

President Ruto also met the CHAN local organizing committee head, Nicholas Musonye while at the grounds and also interacted with Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy and the playing staff. President Ruto lightly joked with captain Abud Omar and the playing staff who all introduced themselves to him in person.

"I can use you as a striker," McCarthy joked when he met the President, after the President executed a well-weighted pass upon being presented with a ball to kick.

The President stated that he was happy to see progress in Kenyan sport and urged all stakeholders to support the game and the upcoming competition.

"I'm a very proud person, a proud Kenyan and I hope that with God's grace we can see a very good performance from the team here. We will support you and your initiatives even as we prepare for 2027, where we will host AFCON, he said.
