Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has been summoned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices on Kiambu Road, with the meeting set for Saturday, April 5.

Her summons follows the circulation of a viral video showing her leading a crowd in chants of “Ruto Must Go” during a procession in Githunguri on the evening of Friday, April 4.

The chants took place just ahead of President William Ruto’s planned visit to Githunguri as part of his development tour across the Mt. Kenya region, scheduled for April 5.

While the reason behind the summons has not been officially disclosed, the vocal MP took to her X account to confirm the sermons by the County Criminal Investigation Officer.

"The CCIO Kiambu contacted me via phone and gave me a sermon, all because the people of Githunguri refused to be swayed by empty promises and unfulfilled projects. Arrests may come, but they won’t alter the truth! No more lies! You promised—now deliver!" Wamuchomba posted.

Wamuchomba had, on March 30, 2025, urged the president to look into the proposed and gazzetted levies on the coffee value chain.

"Your CS in charge of Treasury and Economic planning gazetted a regulation introducing new levies on coffee Sales without farmers' consultations and clearance by the National Assembly. This was on the 7 February, 2025," posted Wamuchomba.

"Mr President, farmers are going to be deducted these levies if implemented. As you prepare to visit us, please nullify the regulations, and let’s have consultations with stakeholders."

The MP, an ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has also recently called on President Ruto to address concerns surrounding the Social Health Authority (SHA), university funding, low capitation, delayed pensions, unreliable Inua Jamii transfer service, mandatory deductions on payslips, and unemployment.
