The Port of Mombasa today received MV Myny, one of the largest container ships to dock at the facility this year.

The vessel, operated by French shipping giant CMA CGM, berthed at terminal 21 on its maiden call and is expected to offload 3,200 containers before sailing to Dar es Salaam.

The arrival comes after the Kenya Ports Authority announced on August 26, 2025, that the port will, in the coming days, handle a total of 45 vessels, with 27 accounting for container ships.

"At the same time, the Port will receive 14 conventional cargo vessels, six car carriers, and two oil tankers. The port of Lamu will also handle four container vessels," said KPA in a statement.

Measuring 299 meters in length, MV Myny’s visit states Mombasa’s growing status as a key maritime hub, with rising ship traffic reflecting robust regional trade.

To mark the occasion, the vessel’s Master, Captain Valeriy Komarnytskyy, was presented with a first-call certificate and commemorative plaque by Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) General Manager for Cargo Operations, Dr. Sudi Mwasinago.

Dr. Sudi lauded CMA CGM for strengthening operations at both Mombasa and Lamu ports.

“We don’t take this partnership for granted. It’s a milestone, and we are committed to facilitating smooth operations to double container traffic,” he said.

MV Myny arrived from the Port of Lamu, where it discharged 550 transshipment containers bound for Dar es Salaam.

CMA CGM recently introduced a dedicated liner service to Lamu, boosting its role in transshipment trade.

Since the beginning of the year, the Port of Lamu has handled 12 CMA CGM vessels, with five more expected in the coming two weeks.
