Suspect in police officer’s stabbing nabbed while fleeing to Tanzania

The suspect, a local resident, was apprehended at Kona 7 Trading Centre near the Kenya-Tanzania border, nearly 15 hours after the Friday morning attack.
A man suspected of fatally stabbing a police officer outside a bar in Muhuru Bay, Nyatike sub-county, was arrested while attempting to cross into Tanzania yesterday evening, police have confirmed.
The suspect, a local resident, was apprehended at Kona 7 Trading Centre near the Kenya-Tanzania border, nearly 15 hours after the Friday morning attack. According to police, he had sought assistance to cross the border in a bid to evade arrest.
He is expected to be arraigned on Monday, July 14, to face murder charges.
The victim, Constable Gilbert Kibet, was attached to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) station in Muhuru Bay. His body was discovered outside a local bar around 4 a.m. on Friday, July 11, with a deep stab wound to the left side of his neck. Authorities said blood was still oozing from the injury when he was found.
The officer was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. A broken bottle believed to have been used as the murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
Police said the motive behind the killing remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing. The body has since been moved to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination, after which burial plans will commence.
In a separate operation, police in Nairobi arrested a suspect operating an electronics repair shop in Mathare after recovering a cache of suspected stolen devices.
Among the items seized were 72 mobile phones, two laptops, a Universal Flashing Interface (UFI), a Pandora device, a camera, two external hard drives, and a central processing unit (CPU).
Police said that 32 of the recovered phones have been positively identified by complainants affiliated with M-KOPA, a digital finance company. Investigations revealed that the shop was allegedly receiving and trading in stolen electronics.
The raid was conducted following a tip-off, and officers have since launched a manhunt for other suspects linked to the racket. Authorities say the probe into the electronic theft syndicate is ongoing and more arrests are expected. Suspects to be arraigned on Monday, July 14.
