Teenager dies in unclear circumstances at birthday party

Police in Lang’ata Nairobi are looking into circumstances under which a 19-year-old woman died in an unclear manner while celebrating her birthday at her boyfriend’s house. Detectives say they were alerted to a house in Mbagathi, where the death of the woman only identified as Faith was reported to have occurred, and there was little evidence to ascertain the cause.
Police in Lang’ata Nairobi are looking into circumstances under which a 19-year-old woman died in an unclear manner while celebrating her birthday at her boyfriend’s house.
Detectives say they were alerted to a house in Mbagathi, where the death of the woman only identified as Faith was reported to have occurred, and there was little evidence to ascertain the cause.
According to investigators, they are relying on toxicology tests to determine the cause of her death that left family members of the deceased in shock.
The Form Four leaver is said to have left her parents’ home to celebrate her birthday with friends and then proceeded to a popular joint along Lang’ata Road.
Faith then proceeded to her boyfriend’s house with one of her female friends when the group later dispersed.
A few minutes past midnight, the friend left, leaving Faith and her boyfriend alone in the house.
A friend said the next day they unsuccessfully tried to reach Faith by phone and later received a call from the deceased‘s boyfriend that the teenager had died.
A witness explained meeting the boyfriend on the stairs and having a conversation that led to the two accessing the house and finding the dead teenager.
An autopsy conducted on her body confirmed died due to asphyxia and that there was a significant amount of water in her lungs.
Investigators took more samples to the government chemist for analysis while the deceased's boyfriend (identified as Mark in the police report) remains in police custody.
Meanwhile, police in Nairobi CBD are investigating an incident where a man jumped from the 5th floor of a storey building.
The incident happened at Nature Building, on Tom Mboya Street on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
The unidentified man's body was still at the scene by the time of going to press.
