Governance stakeholders convene in Homa Bay for 2025 devolution conference

The conference marks a pivotal moment in Kenya’s devolution journey, fostering collaboration to enhance equitable service delivery
This week, Homa Bay County takes center stage as Kenya’s governance stakeholders gather for the 2025 Devolution Conference, the country’s leading forum on devolved governance.
Organized biennially by the Council of Governors (CoG) alongside various state and non-state actors, the event brings together policymakers, practitioners, development partners, the private sector, academia, and ordinary citizens to engage in meaningful dialogue on the future of devolution in Kenya.
From Tuesday, August 12, to Friday, August 15, the lakeside county will host delegates who will share experiences, innovations, and best practices in advancing devolved governance.
The conference marks a pivotal moment in Kenya’s devolution journey, fostering collaboration to enhance equitable service delivery across the country.
The theme for the 9th Devolution Conference is “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice.” This theme underscores devolution’s role not just as a governance framework, but as a vital tool for promoting fairness and inclusivity in public service.
Council of Governors Chairperson Ahmed Abdullahi, who also serves as Wajir County Governor, described this year’s conference as uniquely engaging.
“Prepare to immerse yourself in thought-provoking plenary sessions, dynamic partner-led side events, and interactive exhibitions showcasing innovations in governance and service delivery,” Abdullahi said.
He added that the conference offers a valuable opportunity for delegates to network, exchange ideas, and contribute to policy recommendations that will steer the next phase of Kenya’s devolution agenda.
The Council of Governors is also urging all Kenyans to participate actively in the discussions, challenge prevailing ideas, and inspire bold solutions that will bridge socio-economic divides and shape a more inclusive future for all.
