Carano was dismissed in 2021 following controversial comments where she compared being a Republican in the United States to being a Jew during the Holocaust.

Actress Gina Carano has reached a settlement with Disney and Lucasfilm after she was removed from the Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian. Carano was dismissed in 2021 following controversial comments where she compared being a Republican in the United States to being a Jew during the Holocaust.

The settlement ends a lawsuit she filed against the companies claiming wrongful termination and discrimination.

Carano, who played the character Cara Dune on the Disney+ series, announced the settlement on X, formerly Twitter, writing, "I hope this brings some healing to the force."

She described the agreement as the "best outcome for all parties involved," and expressed excitement about moving forward. She also thanked Elon Musk, who had provided funding support for her lawsuit, saying, "I'd never met the tech billionaire but he stepped in to do this Good Samaritan deed for me in funding my lawsuit." She ended her message simply with, "Yes, I'm smiling."

The actress originally filed the lawsuit claiming wrongful termination and sexual discrimination. She argued that two of her male co-stars had made similar social media posts without facing any punishment. Carano sought $75,000 in damages and requested to be recast in the series.

Back in 2021, Lucasfilm publicly condemned her comments, saying they were "denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities." Despite the controversy, the production company praised Carano's professionalism.

In a statement following the settlement, Lucasfilm said it looks forward to "identifying opportunities to work together." The company also described Carano as someone "always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff" who "worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect."

Carano, a former mixed martial arts fighter, has faced criticism before, including for opposing mask mandates during the Covid-19 pandemic and for making false claims about voter fraud in the 2020 US presidential election, which Donald Trump lost to Joe Biden.
