In Summary

The commission has given applicants until May 27 to submit their applications.

The Teachers Service Commission has kicked off the process of replacing its secretary and chief executive officer, launching a public call for applications just two months before the current officeholder, Nancy Macharia, retires.

An advert placed in the latest edition of MyGov outlines the requirements and deadlines for those interested in applying for the role, which will fall vacant on June 30, 2025.

The commission has given applicants until May 27 to submit their applications. Macharia, who has led the commission since July 2015, is completing her second five-year term.

In December last year, Macharia is reported to have advised the commission to initiate the recruitment process in January to allow for a smooth transition and enough time for onboarding her successor.

However, it is unclear why that recommendation was not implemented earlier.

The position is open to Kenyan citizens who hold a degree in education from a recognised university. According to the advertisement, applicants must also have a minimum of 10 years’ experience in fields such as education, administration and management, public administration, financial management, or human resource.

The job comes with a five-year contract, renewable once for the same period based on performance.

Candidates must also meet the ethical and integrity standards set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Applicants are required to download an official application form from the TSC website, fill it out, and submit it alongside a detailed curriculum vitae.

Supporting documents include certified copies of their national ID or passport, academic and professional certificates, and testimonials.

The commission has also instructed applicants to obtain clearance from various state institutions: the Kenya Revenue Authority, Higher Education Loans Board, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and the Credit Reference Bureau.

Those applying online can access the form through the TSC recruitment portal. Completed applications can either be submitted through the link https://www.recruitment.tsc.go.ke or sent via email in PDF format to [email protected].

Applicants who prefer physical submission must deliver their documents during official working hours to TSC House, 3rd Floor, Nairobi.

The envelope must be clearly labeled “Application for the post of Secretary/Chief Executive Officer” on the top right corner.
