Speaking in Nairobi, Ogamba said 201,695 out of the 244,563 candidates who qualified for degree courses applied for placement in universities and colleges.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on Tuesday released the 2025 Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) results, revealing that nursing remains among the most sought-after courses by students joining tertiary institutions.

Speaking in Nairobi, Ogamba said 201,695 out of the 244,563 candidates who qualified for degree courses applied for placement in universities and colleges.

In total, KUCCPS successfully placed 310,502 applicants into various programmes, the majority of whom completed their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2024.

On placement to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Ogamba disclosed that 52,725 candidates applied against a total capacity of 34,048.

Nursing drew the highest number of applicants, with more than 27,000 expressing interest in diploma and certificate programmes in the field.

“Other courses listed among the most preferred by KMTC applicants included programmes in clinical medicine and surgery, medical emergency technician and community health,” Ogamba said.

In the teaching profession, the Education CS revealed that 20,786 candidates applied for diploma courses, out of which 11,636 were placed. Of these, 10,800 were admitted to the diploma in primary teachers’ education.

“In addition to this, a further 836 applicants have been placed for a diploma in secondary teacher education with a capacity of 2,735,” he added.

Ogamba also highlighted a major development in this year’s cycle — the introduction of a diploma programme in law offered by the Kenya School of Law. He noted that the 500 available slots were fully taken up.

“A positive development was the introduction of the Kenya School of Law with a diploma. The law programme received overwhelming interest, and all slots were filled,” he stated.

He also reported that 93,207 students applied for courses in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, with most of them already placed in their preferred training programmes.

The Education CS praised the successful rollout of the placement process, describing it as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to expanding access to higher education and skills development for Kenyan youth.
