Ogamba dismissed claims suggesting that the Ministry of Education had slashed capitation funds from Sh22,000 to Sh16,000 per learner.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has urged political leaders and education stakeholders to engage responsibly in the ongoing public debate on school financing, particularly in relation to capitation grants.

Speaking amid mounting speculation, Ogamba dismissed claims suggesting that the Ministry of Education had slashed capitation funds from Sh22,000 to Sh16,000 per learner.

He clarified that no such proposal or policy change had been made and cautioned against the spread of false information that could stir public anxiety.

"At no point has it been stated that capitation will be reduced. I don’t know where that narrative originated. Even my colleagues in government have never indicated such a move," Ogamba remarked.

He emphasized the need for leaders to approach the conversation constructively, proposing realistic funding solutions instead of portraying the system as failing.

Ogamba pointed out that education budgeting, like any other government allocation process, depends on available resources and priorities across all ministries but assured the public that education remains a top priority.

"Our aim is to ensure no learner is left behind during transitions, whether from primary to junior secondary or onwards. The government is fully committed to supporting every child’s education journey," he said.

Ogamba also recognized the vital roles played by Members of Parliament, county governments, and international partners in expanding and improving the country’s education infrastructure.

He expressed confidence in Kenya’s education system, describing it as one of the strongest in Africa and a key driver of the country’s future.

In a strong show of support, Kajiado South MP Parashina Samuel criticized fellow lawmakers for what he termed as the politicization of the capitation issue. He accused some MPs of misleading the public and creating confusion by misrepresenting government efforts.

“This is not the time to play politics with children’s futures,” said Parashina. “We must stop peddling misinformation and instead unite to support education funding.”

Both leaders stressed the importance of collaboration, urging all stakeholders to prioritize truth, transparency, and commitment to quality education for every Kenyan child.
