KUCCPS opens 2025 window for university and college transfers

In its announcement, KUCCPS noted that the transfer process is intended to give students greater flexibility in aligning their academic choices with their future career ambitions and changing personal needs.
Students placed in universities and colleges now have a chance to change their courses or institutions, as the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has opened the 2025 Inter-Institutional Transfer (IIT) window.
The transfer period officially starts on July 14 and will run until August 12, 2025. All applications must be submitted through the KUCCPS Student’s Portal students.kuccps.net.
In its announcement, KUCCPS noted that the transfer process is intended to give students greater flexibility in aligning their academic choices with their future career ambitions and changing personal needs.
“The transfer platform gives students the option to either retain their programme or switch courses while moving to an institution that better suits their goals or circumstances,” the agency said.
Each year, many students reconsider their placements after the national selection process with reasons ranging from long distances from home, financial constraints, or programme mismatch, to personal preferences. KUCCPS said the structured system aims to ensure students can make well-informed adjustments without affecting their academic progression.
The entire process is conducted online and involves three key parties: the student, the institution they wish to transfer to, and the one they are leaving.
Step-by-Step Transfer Process:
The student applies for a transfer via the KUCCPS portal. The institution the student wants to join evaluates the application and confirms eligibility. The current institution is notified and must approve the student’s release.
Once both institutions agree, KUCCPS reviews the request and issues an official transfer letter. The student downloads the letter and presents it to the new institution for a fresh admission letter and joining instructions.
KUCCPS emphasized that transfers are only approved if students meet the cut-off requirements for their preferred programme at the receiving institution.
A comprehensive guide to assist students through the application process will be available on the portal.
Education sector leaders have welcomed the move, urging students to seek help where necessary and complete their applications before the August deadline.
