The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast a mix of warm, sunny conditions and localized rainfall across the country over the next five days, from September 12 to 16.
While much of Kenya will enjoy dry weather, residents in some highland and Rift Valley regions are likely to experience intermittent rain and thunderstorms.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Murang’a, temperatures are expected to range between 6°C and 30°C.
The department predicts cloudy mornings will clear into sunny intervals, with light afternoon showers in some areas. “Most parts of the country are likely to be sunny and dry.
However, rainfall is expected in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley,” the notice reads.
Highlands West of the Rift Valley, covering Kisumu, Kakamega, Bungoma, Nakuru, and Kericho, will experience morning rains in select areas, followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms in several locations.
Temperatures in these regions will peak at around 30°C and dip to about 9°C.
North-western counties, such as Turkana and Samburu, are expected to remain generally sunny, although occasional showers may occur.
Daytime highs could reach 36°C, with nighttime lows around 7°C. In North-eastern Kenya, including Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, and Isiolo, conditions will be hot and dry, with temperatures ranging from 14°C at night to highs of 38°C.
The South-eastern lowlands—Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, and Kajiado—will remain mostly sunny, with temperatures between 9°C and 32°C.
Coastal regions, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, will see sunny days and partly cloudy nights, with daytime temperatures reaching 32°C and lows of about 21°C.
The department also issued warnings of strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots in coastal regions, the south-eastern lowlands, and parts of northern Kenya.
Residents are urged to monitor daily county-specific forecasts and prepare for localized showers and strong winds where expected.
