Inmates enrolled in SHA as government targets vulnerable groups in UHC Drive

The goal is to enroll the remaining 49,900 inmates, bringing the total to 57,900 across the country, in alignment with the ongoing UHC agenda
As part of the government's drive towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC), more than 8,000 prisoners have already been registered under the Social Health Authority (SHA) initiative.
This move is a key component of the Ministry of Health's broader efforts to ensure that all citizens, including those in correctional facilities, have access to essential healthcare services.
The goal is to enroll the remaining 49,900 inmates, bringing the total to 57,900 across the country, in alignment with the ongoing UHC agenda championed by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
This initiative is a step toward achieving inclusive health access for all, regardless of their status.
By expanding the SHA coverage to this vulnerable group, the government aims to guarantee quality healthcare for inmates, addressing their medical needs in a structured and sustainable manner.
This aligns with the broader vision of a healthier, more equitable society.
Dr. Ouma Oluga, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Medical Services, stated that registering inmates will facilitate prompt access to medical care, particularly when they become ill.
