The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has suspended all league fixtures scheduled during the seven-day national mourning period declared by the government in honour of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In a statement dated October 15, 2025, FKF said the suspension follows the government’s directive and is meant to pay respect to the late Odinga, who was remembered as a great leader and a passionate supporter of Kenyan football.
“Following the Government’s declaration of seven days of National Mourning in honour of the late former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has suspended all league fixtures scheduled during this period,” the federation said.
FKF also joined Kenyans in mourning the veteran politician, expressing condolences to his family and supporters.
“We join the nation in mourning a great leader and a passionate supporter of Kenyan football. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement read.
This comes after President William Ruto announced that the state will accord former Prime Minister Raila Odinga a State funeral.
He also announced a seven-day period of national mourning that begins immediately.
The President said that all official engagements will remain suspended and flags across government offices, State House, military installations, and diplomatic missions abroad will fly at half-mast.
"I have declared a seven-day period of national mourning, during which the national flag shall fly at half-mast across the Republic of Kenya and in all our missions abroad.
“As a mark of respect, I have postponed all my public engagements for the coming days, and I ask all other public servants and leaders to do the same so that we can join the nation in this period of mourning and deep reflection. Our former prime minister, Raila Amolo Odinga, shall be accorded a state funeral with all attendant honors in consultation with the family," Ruto said on Wednesday as he addressed the nation from State House, Nairobi.
